They offered antique-looking Pok\u00e9mon GO maps, limited Pok\u00e9mon GO History Explorer certificate, \u201cPastPorts\u201d to be stamped at each Pok\u00e9stop, and novel opportunities for visiting historic landmarks in their town.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>What the organizers did (City + Niantic)<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Big Heritage released the map below and encouraged players to become familiar with the trials, which included 120 additional stops within the city center and the transformation of historical landmarks into Pok\u00e9stops. Pok\u00e9mon GO face painters and musicians were available throughout the city, free for under 16s. These players received a certificate and unique code, which they could use to nominate a heritage or cultural Pok\u00e9stop. Suggestions included old buildings and structures, public works or art or large-scale graffiti, natural lasting landmarks, and memorials. Big Heritage\u2019s founder\u00a0 stated: \u201cto us, your opinion is as valid as anyone else\u2019s\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Special recruiting (of Player-Participants)<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The event\u2019s Facebook Page broadcasted Raid Radio, as an attempt to attract the maximum participants at different raids throughout the city. Big Heritage collaborated with schools across the Cheshire and Merseyside regions as part of an \u201cinitiative to encourage young people to explore and learn about their local area by playing Pok\u00e9mon GO together.&#8221; Other \u201cunofficial\u201d community supports include the <a href=\"https:\/\/www1.chester.ac.uk\/business-growth\/locations\/riverside-innovation-centre\">Riverside Innovation Center<\/a> at the University of Chester, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ch1chesterbid.co.uk\">CH1 Chester BID Company<\/a>, the Business Improvement District of Chester who supplied charger ports for trainers at The Works in Grosvenor Shopping Centre, Central City &#8211; Chester Watergate Row, and at Starbucks Chester Northgate Street and Chester Market.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_101\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-101\" style=\"width: 414px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-101 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/playfulcity.net\/go\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/ChesterKidsClock8.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"414\" height=\"356\" srcset=\"https:\/\/playfulcity.net\/go\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/ChesterKidsClock8.png 414w, https:\/\/playfulcity.net\/go\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/ChesterKidsClock8-300x258.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 414px) 100vw, 414px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-101\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">An example of local companies benefiting from event publicity while contributing to the success of the event.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2><strong>Some Takeaways:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Creating rare opportunities, both <em>inside<\/em> and <em>outside<\/em> of the game, spark intrigue (i.e. the high amount of lures and new Pok\u00e9stops; the opening of long-closed Chester Castle)<\/li>\n<li>Integrated branding by Big Heritage made the Pok\u00e9mon GO experience more prominent and cohesive<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Additional Observations and provocations (These are not included in the official report.)
