Blue Pok\u00e9ball stencils were sprayed onto the sidewalk and the mission for players were to snap a photograph of each stop, either within the game\u2019s augmented camera feature or their regular cellphone camera. Scott Curry, who designed the walk, believed the game held educational value for the people of Charlotte. He aimed to align the Pok\u00e9Stops with \u201chistoric landmarks, or nice community parks, or some new infrastructure that the city had just installed\u201d, as a way to inform and galvanize excitement in residents about the future plans for their city.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_224\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-224\" style=\"width: 480px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-224 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/playfulcity.net\/go\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Char2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"480\" height=\"488\" srcset=\"https:\/\/playfulcity.net\/go\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Char2.png 480w, https:\/\/playfulcity.net\/go\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Char2-295x300.png 295w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-224\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Example of one of the city&#8217;s blue Pok\u00e9 Balls.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2><strong>Special Recruiting (of Player-Participants):<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>For the city, Pok\u00e9mon GO turned out to be <strong><em>another channel<\/em> <\/strong>for outreach &#8212; just like radio or print.\u00a0 The city also \u00a0published press releases online and in local print media, conducted bilingual outreach with \u201cads running on Spanish language radio stations and in Spanish newspapers\u201d, and held meetings with neighborhood associations. Community partners included upwards of twenty local organizations, which provided in-kind donations and\/or planning support. A multitude of sectors were represented: bike share companies, healthcare companies, financial organizations, law enforcement, a diverse collective of governmental, non-governmental, and private institutions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Additional Observations and Provocations (These are not included in the official report.)
